Stabilys has a vacancy for a Junior SysAdmin/1st line+/Helpdesk Customer-facing Support Engineer working from our London W10 UK office. The position is suitable for someone who wants a varied and challenging role with the flexibility a small organisation can offer. This is a full-time position but we would consider applications from good candidates who can offer substantial part-time hours while in their last year of training.

Stabilys Ltd. supports some 350 end-users at a range of SME/SMB clients in the London area.

We are looking for someone who is good at - and enjoys - what they do, who can begin performing some of the simpler 1st-line tasks for our smaller customers, and who can grow into a full SysAdmin/Support role.

Your responsibility will be to support production Windows desktops, Windows servers, and UNIX-style (mostly Linux) servers, remotely and on-site at our clients sites, together with typical Helpdesk roles and basic Windows software support. Our ideal candidate will be self-managed, take pride in their work and be able to work independently with limited supervision.

You will be based at our office near Queens Park, London W10. Flexible working will be required, together with evening and weekend work. You must be UK resident (and hold work permits if relevant) and have excellent written and oral English communication skills. We will consider all applicants only on their merits, capabilities, and potential. There will be a one-year probationary period. 'Junior' describes the role, not the age profile.

Experience and Qualifications:

Essential:

  • Academic qualification (or demonstrable significant equivalent experience) in IT

  • You will have a minimum of 1 years Linux or Windows administration experience

  • Experience at working both independently and in a team-orientated environment.

Desirable:

  • You will have supported users in a customer-facing (or equivalent) context

As this is a Junior role, much of the appointment of this position will be based on aptitude, however demonstration of some technical experience - and the right attitude - will be important.

Technical skills:

Required:

  • Good knowledge of Windows XP, Vista, 7, Microsoft Office and Outlook

  • Knowledge of Windows server variants, experience of Windows 2003 Server

  • Good background understanding of DHCP, DNS, mail, domain registrations, TCP/IP etc.

  • You will have experience running a variety of Linux; Redhat Enterprise or CentOS, or Debian/*buntu is ideal

  • You will have experience running a variety of applications in an always-on environment, for example Apache, MySQL, Qmail, IIS, SQL Server.

Desirable:

  • 5 years Windows experience (as user and some admin)

  • 2 years Debian Linux or UNIX/*BSD experience

  • MS Exchange, Outlook configuration experience

  • MySQL, PostgreSQL experience

  • Perl PHP and Shell scripting experience, Windows scripting experience

  • Samba experience

  • Experience of web based control panels for Linux and Windows is useful but not essential

  • Apple experience

Role and Responsibilities:

Helpdesk:

  • Support end-users via telephone and email requests to our Helpdesk

  • Manage Helpdesk dispatch and tracking

Sysadmin/1st-line support:

  • Manage and monitor customers' servers, implement updates and security patches, OS upgrades

  • Manage and monitor and repair customers' servers and workstations

  • Implement upgrades and replacements where required

  • Attend on-site to deal with similar issues

Compensation:

Initial probationary period, 12-15k GBP per annum (or pro rata), dependent on experience. After this, when you demonstrate you are worth more we will pay more. We run a bonus scheme for staff which operates after the initial probationary period.
